Structured Settlement-Economist takes the mystery
out of discounting the future payments involved in a settlement.
It calculates all appropriate discount rates and
applies them to each future payment quickly and conveniently.
The tools built into this software will quickly
calculate the value of a settlement offer that has been made, or
that the user wishes to make. All the user needs to know, other
than the terms of the settlement offer, are the interest rates on
government bonds, available from any financial newspaper or the
internet. When the terms are entered with the bond rate, the present
value of the settlement offer appears instantly.
In addition, Structured Settlement-Economist permits
a law professional to instantly modify the settlement offer to any
level of value they desire. Once an offer has been entered into
the program, you may change the value of the total for monthly payments,
for example, and all of the individual monthly payments will be
automatically adjusted accordingly. Or, once the monthly payments
are acceptable, change the total of the lump-sum payments, and each
of the lump-sum payments will be adjusted to reflect the change.
You can also change the total of all payments, regular and lump
sum, and each payment will be adjusted immediately.
That's why this program rides to so many settlement
conferences in the laptop computers of busy attorneys. With
the day's bond rates already entered into the program, you can instantly
determine the value of any offer the other side presents.
Then, you can prepare your own counter offer as quick as you can
type the total you want into your computer.
Structured Settlement-Economist is invaluable
in calculating the present value of any stream of payments into
the future. For that reason, it is useful in workers' compensation
cases or any other valuation needssuch as lottery winningsbeing
paid over time.
The software comes with a Wizard that guides you
through the entry of the data in the most complicated structured
settlements, enabling anyone to use the program immediately, without
a "learning curve." There is also an Excel spreadsheet that automatically
builds itself, allowing you to modify the data in any way you wish
and to see how each of the calculations is made. The spreadsheet
includes graphing capabilities, so you can graph any of the data
you wish for courtroom exhibits or for helping explain the settlement
to your clients. There is also a complete Tutorial which explains
each step of the structured settlement process, and takes the user
through all program features in detail. A complete Manual is built
into the software for any questions that remain.
